Holland Park Estate is a romantic, classical garden with a sense of calm and serenity, that was created for the haute couture fashion designers London residence. The central focus was the split level lawn, leading to a secret doorway framed by a delicate wooden pergola hidden beneath climbing clematis and roses. An avenue of trees was introduced leading from left to right thus dividing the main terrace and lawn, but at the same time also disguising the ventilation shaft from the lower basement. To the left hand side of the main garden three wooden pyramids create the structure for roses and climbers to ramble up. To the opposite side, there is an antique bench that nestles into the surrounding planting. On the lower ground floor there was a sloping bed that originally contained unsightly timbers; these were stripped out and then incorporated into the existing slope with a planting scheme of buxus spheres to disguise the variation in levels. Overall, a timeless, yet practical garden, which fulfills the client’s aspirations and requirements. Julia was the lead designer and project manager for Randle Siddeley Associates from Concept Design to Completion for an October garden fashion parade.
